This relatively new course was introduced as part of our holistic approach to leading a happy and healthy life.

We have two volunteer yoga practitioners who provide a programme of yoga exercises concluding with a period of relaxation.

The exercises are modified so that they can be done from a seated position.  These modifications make yoga accessible to people with a variety of mobility issues.

Yoga can lay claims to being one of the world's best exercise routines. It can improve flexibility, strength, balance, and stamina. In addition, many people who practice yoga say that it reduces anxiety and stress, improves mental clarity, and even helps them sleep better.

Yoga can be beneficial for individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions through both the physical postures and breath-work. Each pose is modified or adapted to be performed while seated in a chair or wheelchair.

Yoga is a discipline for everyone that unites concentration, breathing, and physical exertion. Disability yoga also does this. As the name indicates, this is a type of yoga aimed at those with physical disabilities and those in wheelchairs. Those who use wheelchairs can also enjoy the benefits of yoga.

As a wheelchair user the benefits of Yoga can be seen in your mind, body and spirit. Some of these benefits include: increased flexibility & coordination, improving muscle strength, tone and balance, minimises the chance of injury, reduces stress, feeling healthier and more energised.
